Description
A museum would be the best place to start looking for one of these, but even then you won’t find one. The third A-26 prototype, the XA-26B, was given a lightweight version of the 75mm cannon from a M3 Sherman tank. Later in the war there were only 35 aircraft constructed with this cannon in the nose for anti-rail, anti-tank, and anti-shipping roles. This is the gunner’s seat for the cannon. This seat was stripped as part of an A-26 restoration, however the aircraft configuration was changed and the seat was not needed. This seat has a hinge on it to fold forward, and latch to the forward bulkhead. Manual pages are from B-26B manuals.
