SPERRY A-17 TURRET CONTROLLER

Description

Another REA Exclusive, this is the ONLY B-32 DOMINATOR part on the market today! The Sperry A-17 was an armored ball type turret only used on the Consolidated B-32 Dominator! The airframe had 2 of these turrets, one in the nose and one in the tail.

The B-32 was produced in the event the B-29 did not live up to the hype. The B-32 had a short career, spanning from late May 1945 to the end of August, flying a couple combat bombing missions; moving to photo reconnaissance missions monitoring Japanese compliance with the ceasefire. Just over 100 were built before the contract was cancelled and all airframes were scrapped. Despite the short life, the B-32 claims the last shootdown of a Japanese fighter of the war and a B-32 crewman was the last American to die during air combat in World War II.

This controller is in very nice condition and would make an exceptional addition to any museum or collection. Unit rotates left & right as it should, handles rotate forward & back, top buttons click, the phone dial twists, and the dead man switches also operate/click. Part numbers on it include 702506 on the lower mount and 657620-c on the main case.
